With Friday's win, the Williamston Hornets officially sit atop the CAAC-Red division. The victory was something special for Hornets head coach Steve Kersten.
Kersten was honored by his team, the fans, and the rest of Williamston high school for his 18 years and 100 wins with The hornets.
That was quickly followed by a convincing driving score for the Hornets, who were led by senior quarterback Austin Stiffler. Kersten praised his players who overcame some adversity and squeaked out the win.
"This group is a squirrely bunch, we screw around a little bit, but they stay focused when they need to," said Kersten. "We have a lot of playmakers, Stiffler stepped up big tonight, he had a little adversity but her carried us, we have players on both sides."
"He's a great coach, he wants the best for our team, and he's the best," said Stiffer.
Kersten has worked with many people in his 18 years as head coach at Williamston, but for him, this year's team meant something special, and a major key to his success.
