LANSING, Mich. — Last year the Michigan Department of Education unveiled a new ranking system that rates public schools across the state on a scale of zero to 100.

For the second year in a row Williamston High School, ranked highest in Ingham County with a score of 95.89. This score also placed it at the top of high schools in Ingham, Eaton and Clinton Counties. Four other high schools received ratings above 90 in Ingham county: Okemos, Webberville, Haslett and East Lansing.

The scoring system looks at factors such as state exam student proficiency, graduation rates and factors such as the availability of art, music and physical education programs. Improvement on state exams is the most heavily weighted factor, counting for 34% of the total score.

Our success on the state scorecard can be attributed to the focus on student growth data throughout the District and evidence-based instructional practices. We have teams of educators reviewing the progress of each student and developing support plans that can be immediately implemented based on what those data are communicating. Our educators are constantly challenging themselves to learn and implement practices that will maximize the academic growth of all students and those efforts are reflected in the high marks our schools earn on the state scorecard. Adam Spina, Williamston Community Schools’ superintendent, said.

Below are some of the scores from Ingham County based on information from the 2017-2018 school year.
