LANSING, Mich. — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer posted a message about MLK Day on Twitter on Monday, recognizing those who have carried on his legacy and reaffirming the need to continue making the state more equal and just.
She also connected these issues to the COVID-19 pandemic, saying it has brought to light many of the issues communities of color face every day.
“That’s why I declared racism as a public health crisis and directed MDHHS to work with other state departments to examine data, develop and plan policies and engage, communicate and advocate for communities of color,” Whitmer said. “Since my first day in office, I’ve actively taken steps to replace injustice with justice and my administration is dedicated to that cause.”
