LANSING, Mich. — Governor Gretchen Whitmer joined state legislators on Wednesday to discuss the economic power of Michigan's women and their families.
Wednesday, also marked the anniversary of Michigan signing the federal equal rights amendment.
Whitmer discussed why women should get the equal pay that they deserve.
"We show up with the same background, the same education level, the same drive, the same dedication to your job; you should be guaranteed the right to know what your colleagues are making and to ensure that you are being treated fairly," said Whitmer.
Whitmer made her comments while addressing those in attendance at an event sponsored by the Michigan Equal Pay Day Coalition.
The event was held at Lansing's Central United Methodist Church.
