'White Boy' Rick to meet with Michigan Parole Board Thursday

Posted

The longest-serving juvenile offender in the history of Michigan has a shot at freedom Thursday.

Rick Wershe, better known as "White Boy Rick" will go before the Michigan parole board at 9am in Jackson. The board will determine if the 47-year-old should be released from his life sentence for drug charges.

Wershe has been in prison 1988 when he was convicted of possessing more than 650 grams of cocaine. As a teen, he was an undercover informant for police and was ultimately arrested for drug trafficking and convicted.

Wershe's life sentence did not include the possiblity of parole. However, the Michigan Constitution no longer allows juveniles convicted of drug charges to get life sentences without the chance of parole--- so his sentence changed.

There's currently a movie in the works based on his life, starring Matthew McConaughey as Rick's father. McConaughey even met with Wershe in prison in March to talk about his childhood years and what his dad was like.

We will let you know what the Parole Board decides. It's unclear if that decision will be made on Thursday or come at a later date.
