What's Going Around: Sports injuries

Posted

If you're not careful, those new years resolutions to get in shape, could send you to the emergency room.

Doctors say they're seeing more cases of sprained ankles, fractures, and other sports injuries.

Dr. Bob Orr at 98point6 Emergicenter says you should get an x-ray or a cat scan if you think you hurt yourself.

If it's a sprain, Dr. Orr recommends putting ice on it right away. Using a pressure bandage and elevating the sprain above the level of the heart will also help bring down the swelling.

Severe sprains may require surgery or physical therapy.

But the most important thing is to see a doctor right away and follow their advice.
