Tong Ho was driving the car in the middle of a six-vehicle accident on I-96. The Ingham County Sheriff's Department says it appears to have started with a semi truck.
"I saw him coming, saw him plow everybody behind me, I think at least two cars were behind, they all get plowed," Ho said.
He walked away from the accident, but other weren't so lucky. Eight people were transported to the hospital, two of them in critical condition.
Ingham County Emergency Management Deputy Rob Dale says it started when one car headed eastbound rolled over into the median.
"It did not hit any other cars heading westbound. The sheriff's office had one lane closed for the clean up of that accident, while the clean up was ongoing a semi truck appears to have run into several cars, looks like we had a total of five cars involved in that second accident," Dale said.
Ho says he thinks the semi truck driver just didn't stop, and the Sheriff's Department says that is what it looks like.
"We know for now that it appears that a semi truck did not slow down for this traffic jam," Dale said.
But police can't say anything for certain yet.
"Causes are still obviously being investigated, we have the accident investigation team from MSP, from East Lansing, from Ingham County out here investigating," Dale said.
Seven police departments and five Fire/ EMS departments responded to the accident.
