The Lansing Office of Emergency Management and the Association of State Dam Safety Officials, in cooperation with CreatureCraft, will be hosting an in-water demonstration of the RescueWog at the North Lansing Dam in Lansing's Old Town on Wednesday starting at 9 a.m.

Due to the drownings at the North Lansing Dam in February as well as the drowning at the Smithville Dam near Eaton Rapids last May,a new rescue/recovery platform watercraft will be in the river at Old Town.

Since rescues and recoveries put first-responders at tremendous risk in conventional watercraft as well as Zodiacs, the Creature Craft was developed to protect rescuers. These are self-righting watercraft that can go over the dam from upstream or move into the boil from downstream.

They can actually "kiss" or get right up to the face of the dam without capsizing. 152 of these craft are now in operation around the country in locations with "killer" dams.

You'll see how the new rescue/recovery raft works later Wednesday on FOX 47 and fox47news.com.
