Walmart is under fire over a controversial display at one of its stores where shoppers came across a back to school display featuring guns.

The signs says "own the school year like a hero" and is placed as you right above a glass case filled with hunting rifles.

The retail giant still doesn't know what store that showed up in, but the company is apologizing and promising the display will come down as soon as they pinpoint the store.

Walmart is calling the display an unfortunate placement, however many parents and shoppers don't see it that way. Photos of the display quickly spread on social media with shoppers demanding answers. Many people are pointing out mass shootings that have happened at schools, saying that makes the sign all the more problematic and offensive.

Walmart spokesman Charles Crowson condemned the display to CNN calling it "truly awful" and "horrible. He apologized, promising to remove the display as soon as it's found.

Earlier reports indicated the store was in Indiana but Walmart has since said that was incorrect.

Walmart believes the photo is legitimate. Once the store is determined the company says it wants to figure out if the sign was placed by an employee or by a shopper.
