Volunteers are being recruited to help beautify Detroit as part of the annual Motor City Makeover cleanup.
Residents, community groups, business owners and students are being asked to lend a hand with planting flowers, removing debris, boarding up vacant houses and other projects.
Plans also include cleaning a small number of alleys.
The makeover will held May 5 in city Districts 1 and 2; in Districts 3, 4 and 5 on May 12; and Districts 6 and 7 on May 19.
The city has raised about $45,000 in cash donations and $15,000 in-kind donations for this year's cleanup.
Last year, more than 6,000 people volunteered. More than 1,700 tons of trash and 8,000 tires were collected. More than 140 vacant houses were boarded up.
