"Here in Lansing we have a group of Red Cross volunteers who will travel down to headquarters today to assist with Harvey as there is more damage to come. Experts say this storm is not done yet."
Houston is drowning and they need help above water.
"We are running short of people to work in shelters to help with feeding and all of the other activites that Red Cross provides."
This disaster calls for more than the immediate need of shelter and food.
"We'll also focus on emotional support and health services for individuals."
Shawn will be doing just that, except from their DC headquarters.
"Volunteers are affected by what they are seeing and the magnitude of it, so we will be there as a sounding board for them with any issues that they have or concerns, so its important that they have somebody to talk to as well as the clients."
Its not sure how long volunteers will be there or how long the storm will continue.
"This is maybe the worst flood we've had in the country in a long long long time. We've had some major flooding but this one is bad, especially the Houston area with the enormous population they've had."
Volunteers and experts say it could take years to recover from.
"We will be helping out with recovery for as long as they need us."
