JACKSON, Mich. — "Widespread flu activity" has prompted Henry Ford Allegiance Health in Jackson to implement temporary visitor restrictions at its hospital.
The announcement was made Thursday afternoon.
According to the hospital, visits are limited to those 12 and older.
Patients who come to appointments with flu-like symptoms must wear a mask. In addition, visitors with flu-like symptoms are being asked not to visit until their symptoms improve.
It's unknown when the visitor restrictions could be lifted.
Flu-like symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, muscle or body aches, headaches and tiredness.
"Most people with flu-like symptoms will not need to seek medical care and should stay home both to rest and to keep from spreading the virus to others. Because the flu is caused by a virus, it cannot be treated with an antibiotic," a news release said.
It's also suggested you wash your hands frequently with soap and water, avoid close contact with others in your home, and drink plenty of water or other liquids to prevent dehydration.
