LANSING, Mich. — Fenner Nature Center is closing its visitor center to the public.

“Due to the rapidly evolving state of the COVID-19 virus, Fenner Conservancy has made the decision to close its visitor center to the public until April 8 at 10 a.m.,” said Liz Roxberry, executive director for the organization. “Public safety, as well as the safety of our staff and volunteers, is of the utmost importance. As a public gathering space we take our responsibility to flatten the curve seriously, and we are confident that this is the right thing for us to do.”

All public programs will be suspended during this time, and previously scheduled school programs will be addressed on a case by case basis. Updates and evolving strategies surrounding the closure will be posted at mynaturecenter.org [center.org] and via social media. For more information on flattening the curve, visit flattenthecurve.com [flattenthecurve.com].

All Fenner Nature Center TRAILS will remain OPEN and FREE of charge each day from 8am - dusk.

“Parks and trails are a great place for social distancing,'' said Sam Ansaldi, Fenner’s programs manager. “It’s easy in the 134 acres of Fenner Nature Center to keep six feet apart from other people, as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggest, and being in nature can help combat some of the mental fatigue bound to occur in challenging situations like this.”

In an effort to minimize impact to the organization, Fenner Conservancy had launched a virtual Maple Marketplace. Purchasers can still pick up their orders during the closure with curbside pick up, available during regular visitor center hours.

Fenner Nature Center is located at 2020 E. Mt. Hope Avenue in Lansing.
