Officials released video that shows a Lansing Police officer exchanging gunfire with a man who police later shot and wounded on March 31 in South Lansing.

The video shows the incident from two angles. One from the dashboard camera of the police car, the other from a body camera. In the video two police vehicles pull up near a man later identified as Michael Magik Jones.

The officer exits her vehicle and begins walking towards Jones, she yells "Lansing police, stop." She yells for him to stop another time as he begins to run away. It appears as though Jones fires the first shot, the officer then returns fire.

If you look closely the video seems to show dirt get kicked up from where the bullet appears to hit the ground behind the officer. She was not injured.

The video was taken on March 31, just after 11 a.m. near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and Dunlap Street. Jones fled the scene in a northeast direction.

Jones was discovered around 12:20 p.m. later that day hiding in the 2900 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Police described the area as an abandoned lumber yard.

When officers approached Jones it appears he began shooting, officers returned fire and Jones was hit several times. News 10 crew on scene at that time say at least 10-15 shots were fired.

Michael Magik Jones faces charges such as assault with intent to murder, felony firearm, and discharging a firearm at or into a building. Those charges stem from a February 24 incident, and the March 31 incident.
