A 5-year-old boy is dead after an SUV backed over him in a driveway.
It happened just after 6 p.m. Friday in the 19000 block of South Chapin Road in Elsie.
Saginaw County Sheriff Bill Federspiel tells us the boy was still breathing on his own when first responders arrived. The boy was taken to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing where he was later pronounced dead.
The suspect was driving a black Buick Rendezvous. It's unknown if the vehicle was equipped with a back up camera.
Federspiel says the family does know the suspect, who has been taken into custody.
Alcohol or drugs are believed to be a factor in the crash.
An autopsy for the boy has been scheduled for Monday.
The Saginaw County Sheriff's Department continues to investigate the incident.
