A new study suggests varicose veins may be an early warning sign for potentially deadly blood clots.

While varicose veins are usually harmless, researchers found the veins were associated with a more serious condition called deep vein thrombosis.

It's not clear if the veins cause blood clots or if the two share a similar cause.
