CLINTON COUNTY, Mich. — A Michigan man could avoid jail time when he's sentenced for a crash that killed a 19-year-old man in Clinton County.
32-year-old Ryan Zandstra was found guilty of a moving violation causing death in the August 2018 crash that killed Tyler Jelinek.
The crash happened on Aug. 20 in the eastbound lanes of I-96 east of Wright Rd. in Eagle Township.
The Clinton County Sheriff's Office says Zandstra's truck was not able to stop for slowing traffic in an upcoming construction zone.
His truck hit Jelinek's vehicle, pushing Jelink's vehicle into a third vehicle. Jelinek was pronounced dead at the scene. Other people involved in the crash suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Zandstra faces anywhere from up to a year in jail to probation for the misdemeanor charge.
FOX 47 sat down with Jelinek's family who says he hopes Zandstra will get time behind bars.
He's scheduled to be sentenced in Clinton County District Court on 1:30 p.m. on April 10.
