WILLIAMSTON, Mich. — UPDATE: Two people were killed and one person was injured in a crash Friday night.
It happened on I-96 eastbound between Zimmer Road and Williamston Road.
Police say one car hit a tree.
Two passengers were killed and the driver was injured.
I-96 eastbound between Okemos Road and Williamston Road was closed because of the crash.
Drivers were being redirected to the Okemos Road exit, due to an accident on I-96 eastbound near Zimmer Road before 9:30 p.m.
The interstate reopened around 2 a.m.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation and police have not released the victims' names.
