A Jackson teenager accused of shooting another teenager in the face will stand trial.

A Jackson County judge decided there is enough evidence to send Tyrel Stewart to trial on charges related to the September 1 shooting near the King Center. A 15-year-old boy sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the face.

Stewart is charged with attempted murder, two counts of felony firearm, carrying a firearm with unlawful intent and felonious assault. He faces a maximum penalty of life in prison on the attempted murder charge if convicted.

Stewart was arrested in early October during a traffic stop.

Stewart is also a suspect in the shooting of a 17-year-old who was boarding a bus at T.A. Wilson Academy on September 26. That investigation is still ongoing and no charges have been filed at this time.
