UPDATE: Suspect in shooting caught in Georgia

UPDATE: Jackson Police have Markeithis Jawaun Smith in custody. He was arrested on July 29 in the Atlanta, Georgia area.

Smith was wanted for sending an 18-year-old man to the hospital with a gunshot wound.

It happened in the 1000 block of Pigeon Street in Jackson around 7 p.m. on Monday, July 23. The teen is recovering after taking a gunshot wound to the chest.

The shooting took place outside a home and the suspect, 19-year-old Markeithis Jawaun Smith, took off after the shooting. Police say the argument was over a girl.

Witnesses say that during the fight the suspect pulled out a handgun and fired at the victim at least three times.

Police say the victim, who later turned up at a local hospital, was hit in the chest and had a grazing wound to his side.

Smith has a three count felony warrant out for Assault With Intent To Murder, Carrying Concealed Weapon, and Felony Firearm.
