UPDATE: Suspect identified in shooting of deputy

SUMMIT TOWNSHIP, Mich. — The Jackson Police Department have released the name of the suspect pronounced dead at the scene of a shooting of a deputy in Summit Township on Wednesday, April 17.

He has been identified as 34-year-old Akeen Brown.

Jackson police also report that he is listed as an absconder from parole through the Michigan Department of Corrections.

The Jackson County sheriff's deputy who was shot overnight Wednesday is in serious condition but he is expected to live.

The shooting occurred inside a residence in the 1300 block of Westlane Drive in Summit Township.
