EATON RAPIDS, Mich. — Fed up--that's how several people in Eaton Rapids Township say they're feeling about a road intersection known for its flooding problems.

Dozens of people showed up to Thursday night's township meeting to get answers to their concerns about what will be done to fix the issue.

"We deserve to know at least a rough estimate and what's the solution. Nobody's even told us what the solution is," a community member said.

The meeting was specifically held for the flooding issues at Columbia Highway and Canal Road. The board invited the Spicer Engineer Group to help explain the process of fixing the drainage issues at that intersection.

"We want to educate the township board so that they can make a decision on whether or not they want to file a petition with the Drain Commissioner's office to move ahead with a construction project," said Larry Protasiewics, project manager of the Spicer Engineer Group.

The board can choose to submit a petition to the Drain Commissioner's office that would ask them to fix the problem. If so, the money used to fixed Columbia Highway and Canal Road intersection would come from homeowners who live around the area, which is something they say wouldn't be fair.

"You spread the burden and I'm not in the district but I'm not far away. It's going to put some burden on me but if we're gonna do the road does that funding not get assessed to the owners of the drainage district," a community member said.

"Now I'm going to have to pay for this on the shoulders of 200 people plus I got to repair my road how is that right? How is that right," another community member said.

At this time the board hasn't made any decisions but say all comments were taken into consideration.

The next board meeting will be held next week in Eaton Rapids Township hall.
