LANSING, Mich. — Hundreds of protesters made their way to the front lawn of the State Capitol protesting police brutality and advocating for the Black Lives Matter movement Wednesday.
Protesters held signs calling for police departments to be defunded while others are calling for the protection of black men.
Some signs read "police the police."
Mayor Andy Schor was at the protest and so was Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin.
On Tuesday night, several protesters gathered to advocate for police brutality while also calling for Mayor Schor to resign.
The group wouldn't give specific answers but said the mayor went against his word.
"Let's just say we don't want you here man and you know what happened," said protester Alex Balderas. "We don't need to discuss it, we know what happened, you know what happened, I'm not going to put you on blast yet. You know what happened."
People from Tuesday night's protest gathered around 4 p.m. near the Michigan State Capitol and about 40 camped overnight until 7 a.m.
