UPDATE: One hospitalized after car knocks down power lines

LANSING, Mich. — One person is in the hospital after crashing their car, hitting several telephone poles along the way.

Just before 3 p.m., Meridian Township Police were dispatched to the area of Grand River Ave. and Zimmer Road in Williamstown Township for a single vehicle crash. The crash resulted in the lone male occupant of the vehicle being ejected. The driver was transported to Sparrow Hospital.

Police say the crash occurred when the vehicle, which was traveling north bound on Zimmer Road approaching Grand River Ave., lost control and left the roadway shearing off several telephone poles before coming to a rest just south of Grand River.

Many are without power as a result of the crash.

The Meridian Township Police Department was assisted by the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office, Williamston Police Department, East Lansing Police Department, Lansing Police Department and N.I.E.S.A Fire and Rescue.

Crews from DTE Energy are on scene and power outages are expected in this general area while they work to replace the damaged telephone poles.

The Investigation of this case is ongoing.
