UPDATE: MDOT says sound wall construction has started

Posted

Today is the day that MDOT promised to begin construction on the sound wall along US-127.

FOX 47 crews did not see any progress so we made a call to MDOT to find out what was the hold up. Monday they said that the construction has started and that crews are setting up traffic control.

They told FOX 47 News that the work will continue despite any winter conditions and won't stop until the sound wall is up and complete. That may be the end of the year. MDOT says there will be about two weeks of prep work before panels for the wall start to show up.

PREVIOUSLY:

MDOT has announced that the construction of the sound wall along US-127 in Lansing will resume October 30. The sound wall is between Grand River and Lake Lansing Roads, and along southbound US-127 just north of Grand River.

The construction began in April 2016 but delays with materials and production schedules kept pushing back the finish date.

There are a large number of panels needed to complete the wall and MDOT says, to ensure the quality of those panels, work plans were adjusted and crews were not on site until the majority of the panels had been constructed.

When the construction resumes, US-127 auxiliary lanes will be closed in each direction along the shoulder. However, two lanes will be open in each direction on US-127.

The construction of the sound wall should be completed by late December of this year.
