LANSING, Mich. — Lansing Mayor Andy Schor has announced a new Fire Chief for the Lansing Fire Department.

The announcement came during a press conference to appoint the new chief which took place at Fire Station #1 on East Shiawassee Street in Lansing at 11:30 a.m. Monday.

Mayor Schor said that Michael Mackey would begin his role as chief in late April.

Mackey has had over 30 years of fire service with the Palm Beach County Fire Rescue in Florida.

“Chief Mackey brings years of experience and expertise to the Lansing Fire Department,” said Mayor Andy Schor. “It is an honor to have him join the department. I’m confident his leadership will be a great asset to Lansing and its residents.”

Mackey said, “I am excited and looking forward to the opportunity to serve the City of Lansing.”

David Purchase has been interim fire chief since last July. He will wrap up his responsibilities by the end of January.

Assistant Fire Chief Mike Tobin will serve as interim chief until Mackey begins in late April.

Randy Talifarro resigned from the position last May so he could remain the fire chief for the East Lansing Fire Department.
