The driver who admitted to leaving the scene of a deadly accident involving a 13-year-old will spend a year in the Eaton County jail.
Hector Arroyo was sentenced Friday morning for driving on a suspended license causing death and failure to stop at the scene of a crash causing injury or death. He will be allowed to leave jail for any doctor appointments. Arroyo was also sentenced to 5 years probation.
Arroyo was facing involuntary manslaughter for the October 2015 death of 13-year-old Helina Dirba, but took a plea deal and confessed to the crash.
Dirba was walking to school when she was hit by Arroyo, who was driving even though his license had been medically-revoked because he is legally blind.
