LANSING, Mich. — The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man who was last seen walking into Lake Michigan in South Haven over the weekend.
The man has been identified as 20-year-old Jaedon Odunuga-Evans, according to Captain Virg Franks with the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office.
Franks told Fox 47 Odunuga-Evans and his girlfriend were swimming at the North Beach in South Haven. He said she is the one who reported him missing, telling police he must have gotten swept under the water by the current.
The flags at all South Haven beaches at the time were red.
Franks told Fox 47 local police officers drove her to Gaylord to meet her family. He said deputies haven’t spoken with the girl or Odunuga-Evan’s family at this time.
Captian Franks said Odunuga-Evan’s body has not been found. He said officials have been scanning the beach with UAV and underwater drones and haven’t found anything.
Franks said officials are going to focus on the pier to see if his body may have been lodged underneath. He said canines are also being used on the coast and the pier in the search.
Dive team missions have been suspended as of last night. Crews search for the body Thursday night, but said they’re confident he’s not in the water near the beach, Franks said.
Drones will continue to be used this weekend in the search for Odunuga-Evans’ body. Franks said officials will re-evaluate their search efforts Monday.
