Investigators say alcohol appears to have been a factor in a crash that shut down one lane of eastbound I-96 early Monday.
The crash happened shortly after 2 a.m. on the highway at College Road. The Ingham County Sheriff's Office says the driver went off the road and struck the guardrail, which went through the vehicle and had nearly 20 feet sticking out the back end.
When officers arrived on scene, the Toyota Prius was in flames.
Investigators say the 39-year-old woman from Mason was able to get out before the car caught fire. She was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injures.
