UPDATE: Suspect scheduled to be in court after charges issued for death of Tyrell Pettway

LANSING, Mich. — Lansing Police have issued criminal charges on the 21-year-old person of interest in the homicide of Tyrell Antonio Pettway.

Pettway was shot several times on Aug. 3, 2019 on the 5100 block of south Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard in Lansing.

Officers responded to the Plush Hair Studio where they found 21-year-old Pettway of Lansing unresponsive.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Investigators were holding a 21-year-old as a person of interest, but released him that Sunday, Aug. 4.

That man, Demetrust Traivon Jones, of Lansing, was arrested on Aug. 27 without incident, police say.

He was taken to the LPD detention facility and arraigned in the 54-A District Court on the following charges:
Count 1: Homicide – Open Murder
Count 2: Weapons – Carrying Concealed
Count 3: Weapons – Felony Firearm
Count 4: Weapons – Felony Firearm

His bond was denied.

He is scheduled to be back in court on Thursday, Oct. 10.
