The Ingham County Sheriff's Department has updated the status of some of the victims in Wednesday's multi-car accident on I-96, near the Okemos rest stop. A semi truck and six vehicles were involved.

One car headed eastbound rolled over into the median. While the highway had one lane shutdown to clean up that accident, a semi truck traveling westbound on I-96 struck five cars, causing multiple injuries and the highway to be shut down for several hours as crews treated victims and investigated the crash.

Two children ages, 17 months and 5 years, from out of the area remain in critical condition. The accident is still under investigation. It is unknown why the first rollover accident occurred, and police are working to find out why the truck did not stop, and struck the vehicles, causing the second accident.

There were 12 injuries as a result of the accidents, causing 8 people to have to be taken to the hospital.

Once the sheriff's department's investigation is complete it will be forwarded to the Ingham County prosecutor to determine if any charges will be filed.
