UPDATE: Cause of fatal crash was a wood chipper

BLACKMAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Blackman Township Police were on the scene of a personal injury accident around 8:16 a.m. on Tuesday morning.

The accident closed down the roadway on M-50 and Black Oak Trail in Jackson County.

Witnesses told FOX 47 News that the accident involved a truck and a motorcycle.

Police confirmed it was a truck and motorcycle accident and the motorcyclist was killed.

They are reporting that a 2000 Freightliner Box Truck, pulling a wood chipper, turned left in front of an eastbound 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle.

The motorcycle struck the wood chipper and the motorcyclist died at the scene.

The truck was driven by a 25-year old Hillsdale man and the deceased motorcyclist was 64-year old James Shepherd of Rives Junction.

A Blackman-Leoni Traffic Crash Re constructionist is handling the investigation, with the assistance of a Michigan State Police Traffic Crash Re constructionist.

Upon completion of the investigation, a report will be sent to the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office for review.
