Early on Wednesday morning, a man crossing the street was hit by a CATA bus.
It happened at the intersection of Shiawassee and North Capitol Avenue in Lansing around 10:41 a.m.
The CATA bus was going westbound on Shiawassee and making a left on Capitol, according to an official spokesperson from CATA.
He told Fox 47 that the driver was male.
Police say that the pedestrian, who is a 72-year-old man, was also traveling westbound on Shiawassee, crossing at the crosswalk when he was "clipped."
He has an injury to the head, according to police, and was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Police said his injuries are life-threatening.
Police say the driver of the bus along with the passengers on the bus were not injured during the accident.
They told Fox 47 that they would be pulling footage from surrounding buildings to help with the investigation.
CATA's Chief Executive Officer Bradley T. Funkhouser sent out the following statement regarding the accident:
"This morning, an accident involving one of CATA’s buses and a pedestrian occurred. First and foremost, our thoughts and prayers are with the individual involved and his family. Our driver immediately stopped to attend to the individual, who was then rushed to a local hospital for medical attention. Our operator is a veteran driver with CATA who has been with us for more than 10 years. We are cooperating fully with the Lansing Police Department as they investigate the accident. Out of respect for the individual and the police investigation, we will not be releasing additional information at this time."
