LANSING, Mich. — At least one person who was shot outside an apartment complex early Sunday morning was released from the hospital.

Five people were shot just after 3 a.m. in a parking lot at Towne Square Apartments at the corner of Dunckel and Jolly Roads.

The woman, who wished to not be identified, returned to the parking lot later Sunday morning to get some belongings from her car.

She told Fox 47 she was trying to leave a party when the shooting starting.

She said she heard too many shots to count, and it sounded like it was coming from different guns.

One bullet hit her in the back.

“It’s too much. Too much violence.”

Latoya Howard’s son lives in the apartment complex said her son’s car was shot, but he was okay.

“I never thought something like that would happen here, where my child lives. The times I’ve visited here it was very quiet,” she said.

Howard said she checked on her son around midnight and saw about 50 people in the parking lot partying, with no social distancing or masks.

“When you’re out being irresponsible, not thinking, not following orders, the only thing you can expect to happen is violence,” Howard said.

Trash covered the parking lot, including many alcohol bottles.

Police said three women and two men between 19- and 30-years-old were taken to the hospital.

No one’s injuries were life-threatening.

Police are still trying to figure out what led to the shooting. No one has been arrested.

“This senseless act of violence will not be tolerated in our community, and we will use all available assets, including our local, state and federal partnerships to hold those responsible accountable,” said Police Chief Daryl Green in a statement.
