UPDATE -- Actor Sets Up Fundraiser for Syrian...

Posted

The Humans of New York blog, which features street portraits and interviews of people encountered in New York City, has recently been sharing the stories of refugees fleeing from various Middle Eastern countries.

We told you about the scientist fleeing Syria who's expected to be re-settled in Troy, Michigan. He captured the attention of President Obama who responded from his personal Facebook page last week.

Now, Brandon Stanton, author of the HONY blog says actor Edward Norton has reached out to him asking if he could host a fundraiser for the scientist.

The donation site has raised nearly $300,000 dollars in just a few days. On the page, the Birdman actor says he was moved to tears by the scientist's story.

Norton said, "This man has suffered profound loss that would crush the spirit of many people and yet he still passionately wants a chance to contribute positively to the world .... Let’s show that a country built by the energy and dreams of immigrants still believes in brave people who come here with hope for better life."

You can read more about the scientist and find a link to the donation site on Facebook.
