LANSING, Mich. — A fire that displaced many families is being looked into as suspicious.
On Monday, August 19, Jackson police confirmed that the fire is being investigated as arson.
It started late on Thursday, August 1, in one of the apartments of a five-unit home in Jackson.
The Jackson Fire Department said it happened around 10:47 p.m. at the three-story home in the 600 block of Steward Avenue, near Ganson Street.
Four of the five units were occupied and some people were home at the time of the fire, investigators said.
Everyone was able to get out safely.
The American Red Cross is now helping the four families displaced by the fire.
Fire officials say early indications show the blaze began inside a unit on the second floor. While firefighters said they were able to get the fire out quickly, there was heavy smoke damage throughout the home.
