The University of Michigan College of Literature, Science and the Arts is serving as an educational sponsor at the 13th annual Traverse City Film Festival.

The festival founded by Oscar-winning documentary director Michael Moore gets underway Tuesday and continues through Sunday. More than 100 movies will be shown in venues around the northern Michigan town.

It will feature the debut of two short films written, produced and directed by University of Michigan students.

They include "Chasing the GOAT," about an aspiring mixed martial artist, and "Malignant Humor," the story of an improv group booked to perform at a high school where a student has committed suicide.

U-M faculty members will lead two public film workshops.

Screenwriting program director Jim Burnstein will teach participants how to develop ideas for movie scripts.
