The Board of Water and Light has issued a report regarding the underground blast that happened Monday night causing many businesses in the area to lose power. They say it was an underground cable fault that popped the manhole cover off, due to pressure from the fault.
They believe a live circuit faulted created a lot of pressure and that pressure caused the blow. They are not saying it was "an explosion" as there isn't anything combustible in the pipes.
Customers without power were quickly moved to another circuit and had their power restored.
You should avoid the area as crews are out there repairing the circuit Tuesday and Wednesday.

A possible explosion underground in Downtown Lansing could be to blame for several businesses losing power Monday night.
Lansing Firefighters say they were heading to the Radisson Hotel to found out why it had lost power, and that's when they saw a manhole cover in the middle of the intersection of Washington and Shiawassee. The manhole had smoke coming out of it.
Firefighters say it's likely there was some sort of explosion that caused it to blow off.
Lansing BWL is investigating.
