LANSING, Mich. — The UAW strike against GM is taking a toll on operations north of the border and with defense contractors.

The president of Canada's Auto Worker's Union said 4,500 Canadian GM workers have been temporarily laid off because of the strike.

GM blames the layoff on a supply issue.

Affects of the strike also trickling down to the U.S. military.

The Navistar plant in Springfield, Ohio makes vehicles for the defense department.

Navistar buys some truck parts from GM.
