Posted

Debate teams from two colleges in Atlanta and two Michigan universities will face off at Mumford High School in Detroit.

More than 800 Detroit middle school and high school students are expected to attend "Debate in the D," which starts at 10:30 a.m. Friday.

The program is sponsored by UAW-Ford and features debaters from Morehouse College, Spelman College, Central Michigan University and University of Michigan-Flint. It will follow a collegiate parliamentary debate format.

"Debate in the D" is part of UAW-Ford's community initiatives to provide educational opportunities for Detroit-area youth in arts and critical thinking.

UAW-Ford Vice President Jimmy Settles says the debate helps "students learn critical thinking skills, firsthand, as well as exposing youth to diverse career paths."
