Two people were taken to the hospital with serious injuries after a vehicle lost control on E. I-96 in Ionia County, went off the road and flipped multiple times, according to the Ionia County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash happened around 10 p.m. Monday, about half-a-mile east of the Hastings overpass. Lt. Roger Vander Molen said the driver failed to negotiate the turn, lost control and the vehicle went into the ditch and rolled three times before coming to rest on the roof.
Witnesses said the vehicle was going fast, Vander Molen said.
The 51-year-old male driver from Lowell and the 49-year-old female passenger, from Lowell, were transported to Spectrum Butterworth with serious injuries.
Alcohol and speed are believed to be a factors in the crash. The investigation is ongoing, but the sheriff’s office is looking into possible charges for the driver.
Assisting on scene were Saranac Fire Department, Berlin Orange Fire Department, Lake Odessa Police Department, Life Ambulance, and Reed and Hoppes.
