Two inmates were caught trying to escape from the Jackson County Jail on Chanter Road Tuesday afternoon. Sheriff Steve Rand tells fox47news.com then men threatened the driver of a service van and took the keys. They tried to ram it through the perimeter fences. The van broke through the inner fence but was too damaged to go any further.
Deputies used stun guns and pepper spray to subdue the men before they could get away. They have been removed from the Chanter Road Jail and are being held in isolation. Their names have been been released yet.
The fences have been repaired. Sheriff Rand says changes will be made to prevent another escape attempt like this one. The Jackson County prosecutor's office is reviewing a request for vehicle theft and attempted escape charges. FOX 47 and fox47news.com will keep you updated on the case.
