Twenty years ago, Dave Stephenson married Emma at the Dream Cruise, becoming the first and only couple to do so.

Their ceremony was broadcast live on WXYZ.

The couple is still together today, but looking back they can’t believe they did that.

“We had Dick Purtan as the father of the bride, Doc Anderson, Big Al from WMC and we just made it happen,” Emma said.

The idea to get married at the Dream Cruise came from a friend, and after Dave suggested it to Emma, she agreed.

“I’m like okay,” Emma said. “We can do this.”

The couple had only two weeks to plan the entire event.

“It took two days to get my dress,” Emma said. “Normal people take a year to get their dress. It took me two days.”

The ceremony went perfectly, and Emma and Dave can still remember the words they said that day.

“Through flat tires and fender benders, detours, and road construction, and believe me we’ve been through all of them,” Emma said.

Emma and Dave hope to renew their vows at a future Dream Cruise
