Michigan State Police are investigating an accident involving a semi that closed parts of US-127 in Ingham County for nearly 9 hours.
State troopers from the MSP Lansing Post were dispatched at approximately 7:40 p.m. Thursday in Vevay Township for a single tractor-trailer crash that occurred on US-127 Southbound just south of Barnes Road.
Michigan State Police say the initial investigation shows the driver of the semi was traveling US-127 Southbound when the truck ran off the road, lost control and tipped over before coming to a stop in the median.
The driver of the semi, a resident of Kent County, had to be extricated from the truck. The driver was then flown to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing via the Survival Flight -- Michigan Medicine. Michigan State Police tell FOX 47 that the driver is currently in stable condition.
It's unknown at this time if drugs and/or alcohol were a contributing factor to the crash, police say.
Michigan State Police were assisted at the scene by the Ingham County Sheriff's Office, Mason Police Department, Leslie Police Department, Mason Fire Department, Leslie Fire Department, Onondaga Fire Department, Survival Flight -- Michigan Medicine, Lansing-Mason Area Ambulance, Michigan State Police 1st District Accident Reconstructionist, Ingham County Heavy Rescue, and the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT).
The highway was fully reopened just after 4:30 a.m. Friday.
