Traffic restrictions lifted for holiday travel

Posted

MDOT is making your holiday travel a bit easier this weekend by lifting traffic restrictions.

MDOT is removing lane restrictions on two-thirds of its roads and bridge projects statewide to help ease traffic delays for holiday travelers.

AAA expects that more than 1.6 million people from Michigan will travel more than 50 miles or more from home during the days surrounding the Fourth of July holiday.

They do warn that some equipment and temporary traffic shifts will stay where they are.

"With the Fourth falling in the middle of the week, it is difficult to know what travel patterns will be," said State Transportation Director Kirk T. Steudle. "Unfortunately, we can't suspend all of our projects for the entire week and meet deadlines for reopening vital roads. We will do our best to keep traffic moving and keep our work zones safe."
