Tour de Zoo at Binder Park Zoo

and last updated

It’s time once again for Tour de Zoo – the exclusive opportunity to pedal your bike through the zoo! From 6-9 pm on Thursday, August 9, bring your bike and cruise the three mile course to Wild Africa and back, pausing to refresh at the New Belgium “hydration stations” along the route.  Tour de Zoo is a FUNdraiser that combines “bikes, beasts, and beers” that everyone will enjoy. Bring your pals, or bring the family. Sport a costume, deck out your bike or both- there will be prizes for the most creative. No wheels? No worries! You can borrow a Battle Creek BCycle for your spin through the park courtesy of the Battle Creek Community Foundation. Then head to the pavilion for the post-ride party featuring live tunes from the R&D Project, hot-off-the-grill food selections from Taste of Binder Park Zoo and a variety of refreshing New Belgium beverages to purchase (you must be age 21 with valid ID). You’ll want to enter the raffle for a chance to win cool prizes including a New Belgium city bike. Made by Detroit Bikes, this beauty will be on display at Mike’s Team Active in Battle Creek in the days prior to the event.

Ride like a tortoise, or a hare, we don’t care- Tour de Zoo is not a race but a chance to enjoy this laid-back, after hours event at the zoo. See vistas of the African savanna as you wheel past herds of giraffe and zebra, cheetahs and lions too.  Tour de Zoo is brought to you by Atlas Sales, New Belgium Brewing Company and Mike’s Team Active. This special fundraising event provides important support for the zoo’s mission to Connect. Inspire. Conserve. Connect people with nature. Inspire them to conserve.

On-line registration is $35 per person at www.binderparkzoo.org [binderparkzoo.org] and includes a handsome Tour de Zoo t-shirt, swag, and a ticket for one free beverage. Day of registration is $40 per person. Tour de Zoo is kid-friendly and youth t-shirts are available.

The course has a variety of surfaces; asphalt, boardwalk, brick, crushed rock, and grass. A combination of up hills, down hills, tight turns and flat stretches may be challenging for some, and bike helmets are recommended. Please note that bikes wider than 40” and taller than 84” will have difficulty navigating the course.  This event is for everyone, but tricycles, training wheels and tagalongs are prohibited for safety reasons.

Tour de Zoo is Thursday, August 9 from 6-9pm. Register online before 5:00pm EST on Wednesday, August 8 or purchase at the door. Visit www.binderparkzoo.org [binderparkzoo.org] and follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
