Too hot for school? Local schools canceling or closing early today due to the heat

It is the first day of fall, but it feels more like summer. It is going be extremely hot today and schools are closing or dismissing early.

WESTERN SCHOOLS
Western Schools in Jackson County announced on its Facebook page late Thursday night that it would be dismissing early due to the heat. The district says "Due to the expected heat index reaching 100 degrees around noon, Western will be dismissing classes early tomorrow (Friday, September 22nd). WMS, WCPHS & WHS will dismiss at 11 a.m. and the three elementary schools will dismiss at 12 p.m."

CONCORD COMMUNITY SCHOOLS
This district is also dismissing early because of the heat index. Lunch will not be served. The football game at Concord is now pushed back to 7:30 p.m. The parade is still scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

VANDERCOOK LAKE SCHOOL DISTRICT
Vandercook Lake School District will have a half-day today, Sept. 22. The Middle and High schools will dismiss at 11 a.m. Townsend will dismiss at 11:30 a.m. No lunches will be served. No after school childcare at Townsend today. The fourth grade field trip has been canceled and will be rescheduled.
