Toddler dies after being struck by vehicle

We have new details his morning about the toddler who was hit and killed on Jackson's east side on Wednesday. It happened just before 4:30 p.m. on Chapin Street.

Jackson Police say the 18-month-old girl was playing the grass in front of her home when she ran into the street and was hit by a 26-year-old woman driving a Chrysler Pacifica.

The girl was taken to Henry Ford Allegiance Hospital in Jackson and pronounced dead.

Officers say Pacifica had been parallel parked along Chapin Street and the driver was pulling away from the curb when she hit the little girl.

Officers also say drugs and alcohol are not factors in the accident and have been ruled out. It remains under investigation.
