Tips on Preparing Your Thanksgiving Turkey

Posted

It's almost Thanksgiving and food preparations should be underway.

The US Department of Agriculture says the turkey should be thawing in the refrigerator at this point, but if it's not, you have options to make sure the bird is ready for your holiday meal.

They recommend thawing a turkey 24 hours for every 5 pounds it ways. However, if you did not do that you can still use the cold water method.

You could also use the microwave to thaw out a smaller turkey or even cook it from the frozen state.

In order to avoid any chance of sending your guests home with food poisoning, make sure all kitchen surfaces are clean, keep food separate to avoid cross contamination, use a food thermometer to make sure it's cooked to a proper temperature, and put those leftovers away after a couple of hours, so you can continue to enjoy them safely all weekend long.
