Passengers on Amtrak will not be able to buy tickets from a person at the station in East Lansing starting later this month.
Effective Oct. 29, there will no longer be a staffed ticket window.
The waiting area will still be open for passengers as they wait for westbound and eastbound trains and they no longer need a paper ticket to get on the train.
News 10 spoke with Michael Frezell, the spokesman for MDOT. Frezell said there are plenty of ways that customers can still buy tickets, including at the station, where there will be a self-serve kiosk onsite for those last minute travel decision-makers.
Other ways to get tickets would be to order them at Amtrak.com or call 800-872-7245, or on the mobile app.
And for those customers that don't want to use a credit card, they can pay cash for an Amtrak gift card at a 'big box' store and then turnaround and purchase a ticket online using that.
